fan clutch is easier done when you pull back on the tensioner pulley, then use an adjustable wrench and hit it with a small sledge. takes me 3-4 hits normally.

Hi, If you look at the thread I posted above you will find a method with vise grips to prevent the fan from moving. Worked for me. See here: Land Rover Discovery Fan Clutch Removal | Another Tech Blog

Another way, Autozone rents a fan clutch tool for ford (or sells it for $25). That tool can be used to capture the bolts on the fan clutch to prevent it from moving. It is not perfect, but the end of the tool has a square opening that fits over the bolts and can help hold the the fan while releasing the nut.

Well got some new to me tires for Xmas 265/65/18 bridgestone dueler ATs.

Now its back to trying to remove the stupid fan clutch.

The stupid fan is off, it was a casualty along with the tensioner pulley.
