Project $$$ pit has been quite a headache as of late. For those who have followed by build know I installed a new AB engine shortly after purchasing the D2 given a blown HG. Since I’ve had the engine installed, there’s been a persistent oil leak. After resealing the oil pan, the leak improved but I was still having small seepage.

my shop added dye to the oil to trace the leak. To our surprise, they found a small hairline crack on the block. Luckily, AB warrantied the engine and my shop took care of the labor. AB and my shop have been awesome throughout the process but a headache nonetheless.

I got the truck back a few weeks ago with the new engine installed. I was surprised to find that the new engine runs quite a bit cooler than the old engine. At 70 mph on the highway I’m seeing temps for 186-190 whereas before I was typically seeing temps in the 200-210 range.

while I was waiting for the new engine to arrive, a custom rear tire carrier I had ordered last fall came in after quite a bit of wait.

I had some free time to install this weekend and the install for the most part went fine. But of course after several attempts to get the 35 in spare on the tire mount, I figured out the issue. The fabricator did not use the correct bolt pattern and lug size on the tire mount.

luckily the tire mount can be disconnected from the rear carrier, so it’s just a matter of getting a new mount. I’ve reached out to the fabricator and hopefully the issue will be resolved shortly.

is that a 16x8 wheel? Also are you happy with the tire size with that lift setup? If you had to go a different tire size would you do the same or what would you go to?

Yes the wheels are 16x8 with 0 offset. I'm generally happy with the tire size and lift setup. My disco came with the wheels, so I tried to reduce some cost by sticking with the wheels rather than doing a setup with custom offsets.

If i were to do it from scratch, I'd likely still run 16x8 but with a less aggressive offset to have more clearance to the fender lips.

.

Very nice. Should be a great setup. I had to do a bit of front and rear fender trimming, trimming of the front metal bumper, and trimming of the front part of the rock slider to clear the tires. Just be prepared that you may run into similar issues.
