Well I'll be damned. Thanks for the info. This confirms my suspicions of this engine having been out before. Since this truck is too early for a 3.9. I wonder if it's been fitted w a 4.2 crank/pistons as well. I wish I knew the history of this thing.

I know it had a full roof rack. Safari bumpers front and rear. And I know it's been in southern California since it had like 15k miles or so. Confirmed by reg records. So I know some money was spent on it at some point. Being that it's so clean inside I'm reasonably sure it's been rebuilt before.

Well the mistery continues. Debating what to do about the lifter. I don't have the other head off yet. I'll do that and decide.

Looks like the lifter isn't rotating eh. What's the corresponding cam lobe look like?

Small update time I guess.

Been waiting for my Reman heads to arrive for about 3 weeks. They finally arrived today. So I used the down time to degrease strip clean and paint my engine brackets. I did the valve covers too. I had the Mean Green alternator tested. I cleaned and polished the case. Repainted the pulley black instead of the lime green it was.
I also cleaned and degreased the engine compartment while I was at it.

I need some help with removing the linkage bracket off the upper intake. How the hell does the butterfly shaft come out? I also want to clean and paint all of that hardware. I'm worried about disturbing the TPS sensor setting. Any advise?

My second dilemma is the Cam/lifters. I found two lifters that need to be replaced. One doesn't seem like it's turning and the other looks circular but more of a indent then all the others. I'm trying not to blow my budget away here but I'm thinking the Cam may have to be do e while I'm in here. Thoughts?

The good news is after running all the numbers I can I'm almost 100% positive this is a 4 2. So I guess that's something.

Yea I think you're right. I found one on Summit Racing that's geared towards low end torque. A step above stock. Made by Crower I believe. I was gonna go with that. Unless someone else has a recommendation.
