Lucked out at our DOT...she couldn't find any info on defenders...so she googled them. Came up with a bunch of junkers for sale in the UK. When she said...how does 5K sound for a value? I said...well, it sounds a little high...but I guess that's okay.
So it has definitely been a minute. In the meantime we have had Rona, my retirement from the Army, my getting my first civilian job as a parts and service guy at Harley Davidson and rising to Parts Manager, leaving to go back as a civilian working for the military and starting my own side gig selling used parts.
Out at my shop I finally had time and a goal so let’s see if I meet it this time. So I pulled the 110 from its resting place in the garage and got it in my shop so we could get going
There was damage to the front axle housing so I sourced a used front and rear axle for it and got to tearing it down for rebuild. In a holding pattern on this one for a few parts. Locking diff and upgraded axles will be going in along with vented rotors
Got the rust cleaned up and treated on the front wheel wells and some fresh undercoating. Man I cleaned a lot of dirt and crap out of the front end of this thing.
So with the front axle tear down I had a few bits that I had to run by my local machine shop fora bit of love and oddly I was out of gaskets for diffs so I had to ring up lucky8 and get a 10 pack coming. The front axle is getting Ashcroft axles and E locker. Back will be getting the same.
The lt95 has gotta go and I have a LT85 and LT230 that I am going to replace it with. So it will have the ability to lock all three which is awesome.
I have a TBI injection set up from Aces Fuel Injection that will be going in. I really don’t want to do an external pump so I am going to see if a D1 or RRC tank can be used with the in tank pump set up.
So I decided it was time to drop the tank. Yeah it smelled terrible.
So I had a plastic tank D1 that was most of the way out already from pulling parts off that truck so I dropped it and drug it in the shop. That was a no go it has a section that wraps up over the frame rail that hits straight into the body mount for the tub support. I peaked under a Range Rover and its plastic tank was the same but another older truck had a steel tank that is a perfect match so I got it dropped out and gave it a test fit. Looks like a winner
so inside the tank was fantastic the pump looked new and worked fine so I’ll do a clean up and on the outside. Then it will be ready to go once I get the welding done, undercoat and axle back in.
thinking I should look at doing a fuel pump access plate in the tub of the 110 for serviceability 🤔

Moved on to dropping the exhaust. Need it out of the way for the transmission to come out and it needs to be replaced regardless so out it goes. I have something really cool I think to replace it with. So had to start with pulling the exhaust manifold nuts on the y-pipe. I know you can feel my excitement on that one 😂

Cut the fuel filter mount off the RRC frame and will be transferring it over to the 110 frame to keep it all sorted nicely.
I removed the Salisbury rear axle and will be putting a Disco axle with disc brakes, a locker and upgraded axles back in its place. I apparently forgot to let it out however
