"You should just get a Jeep"... My 04' Disco Build Thread
Yes if you upgrade the rear driveshaft you have to convert the flange on the diff side to remove the flex piece.
Yeah, this was news to me too. After some quick research I've seen guys rip apart the rubber donut on the trails and went with this metal/metal conversion. It makes sense, we'll see how it matches up in about a week when I install everything.
I can only assume they rip apart worn out donuts. I have a 350hp BMW which regularly sees 7000 rpm shifts and I've yet to have a problem with the flex disc. My daily driver has at least 200k miles on its flex disc and it's fine as well. This one has 100+hp less but isn't exactly babied either. That's not to say they don't wear out or fail, but I don't think simply not having one in there is an upgrade in my opinion. A lateral move at best. I'm certainly open-minded about being educated on what I'm missing however. Perhaps severe articulation puts additional strain on them which they weren't designed to handle.
And sorry, not ignoring the spacer question, I just don't know the answer.

I'm unsure of on the spacer. In my mind the flex piece helps keep some strain off the weak stock diff, also I haven't needed to upgrade my rear driveshaft yet and I keep a spare flex disc in the car and it's a easy trail fix if I do blow mine up.
Parts have finally come in. Need some help with the Terrafirma lift.... https://landroverforums.com/forum/ge...co-2-a-100123/
