CA Smog Test - '95 Defender 90 NAS
Hi - I am a California resident and recently purchased a 1995 Defender 90 NAS with a 3.9L from out of state. I now need to pass a CA SMOG test and failed my first try yesterday due to a 234 HC reading at 2,500 RPM (vs a 170 HC max). Has anyone here had any luck passing CA SMOG, or have any ideas on lowering the HC reading? My amateur googling has informed me that given I have high HC readings but good CO% results that the catalytic converter is probably OK, and that the issue is likely driven by spark / ignition / timing. I am debating adding a can of sea foam before the next test, but don't want to trade one problem for another... Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
