Default Defenders in Germany and import to US

Son just got stationed in Germany. Our plan is to buy him a 22-25 year old diesel Defender so he can drive it around while stationed there.

Once he gets stationed back states side, then we plan to use the Army to ship it back.

Questions:
since it is a diesel, does it still qualify for the 21 and 25 year old law of the EPA and NHTSA

Second, anyone know of some good resources to find a good used one?

I’ve been looking for LHD Defender in Germany and they are being sold for crazy money. Almost 3x as much as RHD one from England.

Does it have to be LHD to import over?

LHD or RHD can be imported to the states. Stateside buyers do it all the time from England.
Back in 1997 when I was stationed in England for the first time, I imported a RHD 1967 Jaguar 420 from England to my new assignment in California.
I miss that Jag.

Yep... original drive train and original VIN numbers all match.
