Question to left side drivers
Hi. Everyone.
First of all, english is not my language, Please understand my short english and focus on what I want to say. Thank you.
I would like to ask about my defender's driver side seat position. My defender's driver seat is left side.
At the first time, whenever I drove my defender, I could not get the comfortable driving pose. My right side hip joint, knee, and ankle was very uncomfortable. I thought it needed time to get used to a new car. My the other car is a VW golf, and they are totally different. But after a couple of months, my defender driving was still very uncomfortable and I tried to figure it out why.
As you know, brake pedals in most cars are not set aligned with wheels, just like an above pic A. But my defender is aligned with wheel. It is on the exactly center and I can braking with my left foot just like an above pic B. So everytime, Because of this abnormal pedals' position, I had to set my right leg uncomfortablely for accelerating and braking. I think.
I think it is caused by huge center tunnel and the Defender is designed for left side driver seat. You can get it when you have a seat on the assitance seat (right side) if you are in left side driver seat country. Take an assitance seat (left side) and move your right foot. It is very comfortable with enough foot space. There is some space for a right foot on the right door. So, right side driver seat Defenders have no problem. However, left side driver seat... I think LR did just move them from the right to left without any considerings.
Anyway, is this only me who feels uncomfortable? Are there any way to solve this problem? I would like to move a brake pedal to closer to accelerate pedal. Is it possible?
Thank you for your reading and waitng for your kind and wise answers.
Nope, you're not mistaken. The tunnel protrudes more into pedal area on left side and lefthand drivers complain about this frequently on several boards. Not sure if there is really any way of resolving issue.
Yes, the seats in the left hand drive Defenders do not position you for comfortable driving. There are adaptors that raise and move the seats mounts back a bit. Here is a link from Rover’s North, but there are Proline ones as well.
