To rebuild or not....that is my question ?
What to do, what to do, oh me bold merry men.......
So my wonderful 1985 2.5N/A 90 has come to the end of the road....and what a long road it has been with 320,000 miles on the clock....
Failed DOE as chassis is beyond repair, and to be fair its stood me in good stead for last 13 years, and apart from chassis there's the oil leak from the rear engine seal and the leaky steering pump / reservoir..... so here I am at a crossroads.
Looking at prices I guess its going to about 2K euro to get a galvanised one in, and if I'm doing that I may also go for a galvanised bulkhead from Ashtree, another 1K euro.
Having recently had the undercarriage polybushed there's no need to worry there, and I have a 200tdi motor in the shed to fit when I'm ready.
So apart from taking my time and allowing for God knows how long to do it what else should I be looking at ?
Of course I could always wait for the right vehicle to pop up in LRO advert's ( 5K plus for something decent) or similar.
In any case I would appreciate some feedback from those who have done it already and some idea of how to start going about it and what to look out for enroute.

I'm not sure what they go for there. If you bought another one for 5k, would it have all of the galvy parts? If not, you'd probably be money ahead fixing up your 90. It should pretty much last forever once you replace those part, right?
What's your bulkhead like? Would a few minor repairs allow you to get it hot dipped and have a good one? That could save you a good bit over the cost of a new one.
Any bad body support rust?
With that mileage it would be worth going through the gearboxes and rebuilding the swivels.

Thanks all for replies,
I guess if I spent 5 or 6k I would get a good one here, but not with galv. as that would be a rare thing on the market hereabouts.
and I am happy enough with most of my machine as it has been serviced and kept up to scratch. The footwells were done and might need to be again, but the bulkhead seems to be fairly good generally however I will know more when I strip it.
Looking at the comments from various forum's I am thinking my best plan is to start stripping and inspecting as I go and that will give me a better idea of how things look underneath and whether any body panels may need replacing or touching up etc.
At least then I will know if I am going to proceed or replace.
adios

If there isn't galvanic corrosion on the alloy panels then they can be removed from the steel structural frame so that the steel can be cleaned up and mended, if the rust is limited. That's a common thing to do on Series bodies. Just depends on which you have more of, time or money, as to which route you go.
