Default Steering box tie bar Landy 110 Bush or not?

Hi,
I am changing the steering box on a '88 110. I loosened the nut securing the steering box tie bar to its mounting. I removed the nuts and bolts securing the tie bar to the steering box. Should there be a bush around the tie bar, where it is secured to its mounting? There appears to be enough space here for a bush but there is none. All help greatly appreciated. thanks.

You would assume it would but mine did not either and nobody seemed to have a good explaination as to why this critical connection would be left up to friction and torque.

After doing some research and getting advice from various peolple
, this, apparently is the way it works. It makes it easier to fit and no
bush needed to attenuate vibration. It's possible that when all forces
are considered that lateral force is dealt with as they butt up
at right angles and that vertical forces are negligle. Most of the load
would be on the the bolts holding the steering box to the chassis and
also on the spline from the box into the drop arm, and from there to the
draglink etc. Obviously I'm not being thoroughly scientific here, but going
on consistant advice from those more experienced than myself
, I feel confident remounting it as I found it originally.
All the best.
