1 year of ownership (the done and the to be done)
Well, I've officially owned my 94 disco for 1 year, and I have to say that she has been very reliable. Over the past year, I've done the following maintenance: changed coolant, changed diff fluids, changed transfer case fluids, several oil changes (rotella w/ mobil filter), greased drive shafts, changed swivel housing grease, and changed the air filter.
Up until two weeks ago, the only "repairs" I had done were replacing a cat on the passenger side, replacing the radio with a stock radio from a 97 disco, and replacing a couple of signal bulbs. Two weeks ago I was driving home from work and the temp gauge shot up and white smoke billowed from the engine for a good 10 minutes. I though she was done, but it was just a blown heater house that spewed coolant on the engine. Replaced the hose and a compression test was good!
The truck has been fantasic, but there are some thing I need to or want to address in my second year of ownership. Like most old disco owners, I have some rust issues (see pics). I know NOTHING ab body/rust repairs and dont have much desire or time to learn how to do it so I'm debating just driving it til it won't drive anymore. It's got some holes around sills and where the bulkhead meets the floor panels, and some holes are starting to form in the wheel arches. Luckily, the previous owner already fixed the rust in the back and rhinolined it. Based on the pics, what do you think it would cost if I paid someone to fix it, or would anyone even touch it?
THe other thing I want to address is the paint fade on the hood. Is there ANY way to fix this other than repainting?!?!?!
Here's some pics:

Consider a custom hood decal that is supposed to reduce glare from rack mounted lights, covers a lot of real estate. If ones on line do not do what you want, a sign shop can print one for like $15 a square foot. And yes, a Giant Gamecock would look great as you cruise thru Pumpkintown on the way to Anderson, annoying as many Clemson fans as possible!
HA! Although my wife also went to the university of south Carolina, I'm not sure she would approve of a giant gamecock on the hood of the disco. I thought about the hood decal but the problem is that the major fading is at the front of the hood, which the decal wouldn't cover. Do you think a paint shop could just paint the hood and match it well? I also thought ab blacking out the entire hood or seeing if the fading could be wet sanded away.
