10 mm spark plug wires

I am changing my plug wires, cap and plugs this weekend, I know everyone talks about the magnecor 8mm, would a 10mm be overkill and a waste of money?

The trucks came with 7mm wires.
Someone said to use 8mm because they last longer, but really how much protection is 1mm going to give?
10mm wires will not fit the wire looms.
