Default 1361 and 1363 fault codes

I have a 1996 5-speed Discovery. It was a little wet yesterday (a little snow and a slight drizzle) and I lost power and stalled a 3 or 4 times as I was coming to a stop, or if I didn't keep my foot on the gas at stop lights (it did start right back up each time). The UltraGauge showed 1361 and 1363 fault codes. I checked them and got "No Ignition Coil Activation Fault Coil 1 and 3".

This happened before when I went through water that was a little too deep, but it cleared up after a few hours. It has been sitting overnight and now wont start. All lights come on, fuel pump runs for a few seconds, starter turns, but isn't getting spark and wont fire up.

I was going to change the plugs and wires anyway, and since it looks like i am staying home from work today...

I thought it might be the ECU getting wet, and I was going to seal that up as well, but I don't know exactly which black plastic box on passenger side fender is it. Is it next to the washer fluid reservoir or between that black plastic cover and the fuses? Here is a picture. Is it A or B?1361 and 1363 fault codes-ecu-question.jpg

It is "A". The "B" is the multi function relay, which controls fuel pump as one task.

Attached are pages on those codes. Suppose you could have a set of bad coils. Bad plug wires with cracked insulation. And no spark at any plug always has the potential of being the crank position sensor.

Thanks a ton for that quick reply and for the additional links. I was searching the RAVE for an hour this morning but couldn't find I needed.

So I went out and pulled the ECU and wasn't all too thrilled with what i found. There is a hole under where it sits so water/mud/salt/squirrels could get all up in there.

I am about to open up the ECU and see what kind of damage is in there. anyone have a spare housing/cover they want to sell me? Then there is the question about the hole in the floor too...

You may want to get a pull out from the boneyard.

Thanks for the heads up on the crank position sensor. I have than added to the "gonna need list". After I cleaned/sealed up the ECU and got the plugs and wires on the truck started and ran just fine. There was a crack in the insulation on the #1 plug wire, but it could have just been the ECU and connectors drying out all day. It wasn't a bad day to take off work to take care of a few things anyway.
