1994 D1 Head Gasket...finally.
Thanks for jynxing me SB! I was thinking the same thing about 50 different components but have to draw the line somewhere...
Since the top-end gasket set comes with lots of stuff I have been pulling some stuff apart and looking/cleaning. Pretty nasty stuff but all there. The t-stat is 195, not sure what factory is supposed to be but that is about right for winter at least. The throttle-body heater plumbing was a mess with lots of corrosion, etc. All cleaned up now though.
Question about the MAF. I have the screen out, it wasn't too bad actually but I want to clean the whole thing. Can I remove the two hex-screws and take out the plug/MAF assembly? I might need a picture to better describe what I'm talking about.

No you don't want to immerse the MAF. Just clean with MAF cleaner when cold. But there is a chance it will die, and a new one is $$$. Be gentle. Factory stat is 192 - 195 F. With no stat mine ran 135 - 1405F Tried 160, now have a 180, just playing around. If cooling system is OK, 195 is just fine. Stat is about the cheapest thing under the hood....
So don't dis-assemble MAF, just spray clean. Got it. It actually looks pretty good...much better than the intake plenum downstream of the throttle plate. Wow, was that a mess!
Do I really need the Ram's horn gasket or can it be re-assembled with gasket-maker?

Head removal in process...2K Disco...wiring harness, ha, ha, ha!!! One wire in particular is a true pain...the O2 sensor...any tip on how to get that out of the way as in unplugged...Need to replace it...anyways...Plus, it sure seems it would be nice to get thqat flippin' meandering MESS out of the way...
Other than that li'l hitch, in the morning...(I think...) all that is left is to unbolt the plenum, valley cover & the heads!!! Hoorah!!!
Oh, someone tried to pull the plug on the O2 sensor...HA,HA...they got it unplugged...from the connector...on the O2 side...read: TORE IT OUT!!! Temper, TEMPER...
Any suggestions on the sensor would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
