1995 Disco won't start
Hello all,
Have a 1995 Discovery that shut off while my wife was driving it. She was able to start it and make it home to await her talented husbands arrival. After several frustrating hours of work. I simply am at my wits end! The car cranks but refuses to start. I've changed the distributor cap and rotor, pulled spark plugs, checked to see if they're sparking, pushed the fuel jacket valve to see if there is fuel. All of these check out. I've tested all fuses and fusible links. There is one thing I don't get though; on the fuel jacket there are switches for every jet and I'm getting current to these switches. There is one switch on the fuel jacket that sits under the throttle body, that isn't switched on when key is in on position. Don't know the name of this part, but I think whatever governs this switch is the culprit. This year Disco doesn't have a crank sensor, so that takes care of that issue. Tried spraying Quick start (ether) in the throttle body and the cylinders, with no luck. HELP!

Sounds like the ignition amplifier that's mounted on the distributor is failing.
Here's some detail on it, Ignition Amplifier Module

It could be the little known and least understood "I let my _____ drive my Rover" sensor located in the Driver's Seat. It senses the presence of your wife driving and sends various malfunction codes to various segments of the Secret Rover Control Circuitry.
Mine malfunctions in a variety of ways every time I let my SON drive mine. You never know what sort of mysterious problems will pop up when this sensor detects the presence of a foreign body in the Driver's Seat.
All Discoveries have this built in sensor, so when you do manage to resolve the current malfunction, try not to make the basic mistake of letting her drive your Discovery. Mine runs fine as long as I do not let anyone else occupy the Driver's Seat.
Good Luck and Welcome to the Wonderful World of Discovery.
It will eventually reset if you keep her out of the Driver's Seat. The real fix is to not let that mistake happen again.

That same sensor detects the proximity of the wallet that will fund the repairs, and the available balance on bank cards.... Repair costs and available funds are usually inversely proportional. Later Discos have the WIFI upgrade that allows dealers to broadcast new, more expensive codes if you get within wifi range...
