Default 1996 Disco 1 tranfercase stuck in neutral , selector easy to shift.

I have a 96 discovery that jumped out of high and shifts easy but will not engage in either low or high. The selector moves very easy now. When under the passenger side , I can see the upper linkage moving but the lever comming down the transfercase does not. Any suggestions before I drill rivets.

Assuming you already tried locking/unlocking the CDL?

Drill the rivets. You might as well eliminate the lockout solenoid while your at it.

ty for the replies. My second disco, the lockers ,never used them on this rig, only used hi/lo as the cdl side is frozen. She seems like the transfer case is disengaged in neutral no mater what hi lo position. Dragged her home by chain 60 miles, the hi lo cdl shifter is smooth now going from hi to lo and you can feel the positions, but no forward or reverse. It popped out, slowed down to 5mph and the shifter shifted but the transfer case acted like it was in neutral.

The shifter is only part of the equipment, the dog probably isn't moving all the way to engage or stay engaged in either gear. There is a plastic pivot in the CDL shifter stalk, it likes to break and it'll feel like it's working but it isn't going full stroke. Console and then the CDL my friend, gotta go after it.

First thing in the morning. I will keep this thread posted. Anyone blown a hi lo shifting fork or the pads on the fork.
