Default 1996 disco won't crank

I haven't had time to check this out yet and I'm looking for some direction before I get started.
My '96 disco had a couple of 'no crank' situations that were intermittent, but then became permanent. I had it towed home, but haven't had time to check into it yet. Incidentally, when I shut it off at work and locked the driver's door, the other doors failed to lock. (I don't have a fob).
I'm getting ready to start checking things out hopefully this week and am wondering if I should check out the driver's door lock system first, as I'm under the assumption it ties into the alarm ecu and can affect the starting system.(?)
Or, should I just start from the starter back?
I appreciate any input.

And alarm light on dash will show you if that is involved. Try banging on starter with hammer or tire tool, that may break loose corrosion on the starter solenoid. For a very short time. It is fun to get out, you can work from in front of the axle with several extensions, allen head bolts, be sure to wash them out with solvent so you can get wrench all the way to the bottom.

I had to replace mine (starter) when this type of situation happened. Starter isn't all that hard to take out. The heat shield is the PITA part sometimes, lol. If you are hearing just a click, then nothing its more then likely your starter. There not to bad as far as pricing since i got mine for $225 and a $70 core so $155 ntb and for refurbished Bosch.

Verify your battery is good, first. If it is then it's probably the starter. You can get a good used one from Paul Grant for much less.

thanks for the input so far.
The battery is good.
The starter makes not clicks.
There is some clicking coming from the alarm control unit.
The lights are good.
Windows and all accessories work.
Automatic door locks don't work (no fob, just a key). The locks quit at the same time it wouldn't crank.
