Thank you for the information. Is there a best degreaser/solvent for the inside of the engine area? Historically I've used Simple Green, sometimes Gunk, etc. Would like a clean patient before I start surgery.

How much are you paying for this truck, are you sure you don't have something more expensive wrong with it?
As for head gasket sets, call P.T. Schram, link in my signature section, he will sell you a kit that will be of good quality for a lot less then others.

Bolts to bungee cords, lol I mangled that one - but main point is don't reuse old ones.

Call Will Tillery and ask him about head gasket special that includes remanned heads.

He will send you everything you need including heads ready to go in your truck and a shipping label to send your old ones back. This cuts down in time and speaking from first hand experience the work is quality. I did this on the last truck I did HG on and it was worth every penny having the new set of heads sitting there ready to go in.

I think the cost was $510 total including shipping, gasket kit, bolts and heads.

I am glad to know that. That is the kind of info all of us need to be aware of.

Rant off.
I agree but I think the only problem is that you do not know who made this batch of fluids for example.
I typically use Wal-Mart gear lube, I know who makes that, Safety-Kleen, same brand the US military uses.

Trevor rocks, I e-mailed him last weekend about all the gaskets and seals to repack all my wheel bearings, $25 shipped for all four wheels.
I have been using him for 90% of my parts.

I paid $1300.00. More than some and less than others. I looked at a few for more that were thrashed. I figure I will put 1000-2000 into it and have a keeper. That's is the hope...So double that? I have been told by a few Indy rover shops and also the dealer that its liners and not head gaskets. However, I feel that they were trying to steer me towards motor replacement, etc. From the thirty or so hours spent on the blogs, I hope that it is a head. Would you guys say that 9.8 times out of 10 its heads? Thanks. Tearing her down at the moment...

I would have them machined. When I did my first hg job on a disco I called a local rover repair shop asked them who does their machine work and went there. Found an awesome small crew at a cool engine shop. They told me to machine them every time as it doesn't take much overheating to warp them and with the cost and time of tear down just to get the heads off, why risk it, ya know. My 2 cents.

Those remanned heads would be a great way to go as well.
