Default 1997 Disco I Rattling/Squealing noise when accelerating

Hi guys,

About a couple weeks ago my disco 1 starting making these rattling noises that sound like that are coming from somewhere underneath driver or passenger seats, possibly the transmission. Initially, the noise was not as intense or as frequent. I noticed that my transmission oil was extremely low (to the point where it wouldn't even show on the dip stick) so I figured the noise was being caused by a lack of oil in the transmission and gears drying out and I filled it up to level with more trans oil. However, ever since I added more oil the sound got louder and more frequent. Now every time I accelerate I can hear this rattling noise which is sometimes followed by what sounds like a slow jack hammer for about a second (are these gears grinding?). Can anyone help diagnose this issue? Did I mess up my transmission? Is this a driveshaft issue? How screwed am I? I tried attaching a video that I recorded the other day.

thanks in advance for the help

Default Sounds like transfer case

I believe this could be the front circlip failure on the forward facing shaft in transfer case. I had similar noises and this solved it for me.

it was either what I said or the front prop shaft needing to be replaced.
