1997 Discovery 1 Smell Fuel When Driving
My 1997 Land Rover Discovery XD has fuel smelling when driving (when engine is off, it gets better). The smell mainly comes from the rear passenger side but sometimes I can smell it from the driver seat if I have the window down. I checked under the truck there was no obviouse fuel leaking trace, but there's slight fuel smell around the rear passenger wheel area. It's definitely not the fuel cap and I double checked and tried with a new fuel cap.
Where are the fuel lines and or vapour lines in and out the fuel tank where I can check?
Thanks,

Both my 94 and 96 needed that same tubing line patched up. Look underneath up near filler neck at the top, but could be anywhere along the line.
When it's sealed up well, there should be a woosh sound of pressure escaping when the gas cap is opened after driving. Best to get it fixed, otherwise you'll loose a lot of gas to evaporation.

You support the tank, remove gas tank skid, loosen the large filler neck hose, and slowly lower the drivers side of the tank. Passenger side will rest on the frame. Remove fuel pump access cover and lower the tank until you can see the 3/4 vent line to the right of the fuel pump assembly. Getting the old clamp off can be a challenge depending on the angle it was installed. Lubricating the Gates 3/4 fuel injection line will make it easier to slide on the tank side. Use a new SS clamp, and let the hose hang out the side. The raise the tank, re-install fuel tank skid, then tighten larger filler line clamp, and route new line thru hoop on body (if not rusted away) then secure with new SS clamp and never worry about that vent for a VERY VERY long time.
I DO NOT recommend the AllMakes4x4 version of the line or even the OEM line. It's just a rubber line with zero re-enforcement so it'll crack and leak again(especially if the gas has any ethanol in which makes the fuel vapors destroy the OEM stuff or the aftermarket stuff quickly). If you use either of those you could be doing it all over again as quickly as 2 weeks to maybe 5 months if you're lucky. The Gates 3/4 fuel injection line is much more durable solution.
I've seen so many use 3/4 heater hose also = huge mistake as it's not rated for fuel use and will quickly crack and leak. 3/4 heater hose for a trail fix sure, but permanent solution = no way.

Thanks for the instruction. I removed the large tank filler hose this morning and was able to slide it off the fule tank filling nose, but found these another smaller tube inside the large rubber hose. It goes inside into the fuel tank and I wasn't able to pull it out.
Do you know what it is? and how should I do to remove it? or just leave it when I lower the fuel tank?
Thanks,

Thanks. I was able to lower down the fuel tank leaving that small tube inside the large filler pipe untouched.
Another question, where is that vent hose? Is it a small rubber hose that connects to a nipple on top of the fuel pump, and the other end goes through the top of the tank to the passenger side fuel filler assembly area? But from the above picture, it's showing another hose that connects directly to the fuel tank.
