I would start with checking fuses, then lightly tap on starter while having someone turn it over and if neither worked I would suspect crank sensor. Not to hard on the starter though you can damage it (as if you were cracking a pecan with a hammer). If it happens to be the starter you will want to get one soon...it may work again but, it's on it's way out.

A crank sensor will NOT keep the starter from cranking. it will keep engine from firing. it controls fuel pump and ignition power.

I would bet its a security system issue.

I agree with the security suggestion, mines done this......sometimes I remove the key and start over..........fires right up......other times it's left me sitting.......Love to bypass that security system!!

What are the steps to overcome the security system problem?

Could be a dead battery, easy to check, and you don't need to crawl under the truck. try using another vehicle to jump start it, if that doesn't work, then move to other checks. Make sure ground is clean and has a good connection. Try a jumper cable between engine block and body. Been there...
