Hi everybody!!

I own a Land Rover Discovery I (1998) and it was in a parking for 10 years.

I decided to make her run again so I changed a few things (battery, oil, liquids, sparks, fuel pump, etc.).

The car was sitting in an open parking for 10 years and had some water on the passenger side (left wheel Discovery) that came from the roof.

With the help of a mechanic we started the motor. The funny thing is that after a small ride (this happened 3 times) the engine stopped and I realized that the fuel pump was not working (had no power). After some hours the car started back (for a few times). Now the car won’t start

I checked the fuses, the inertia switch, but again no luck. When I turn the key the starter is working but I can hear that the fuel pump is not taking any power. I gave power from a battery to the fuel pump but the car wouldn’t start again. The immobilizer sign and the red light on the dashboard are off.

How can I start troubleshooting my Disco? Should I first check the grounds, the ECU, the alarm?

Your fuel pump is very likely to be dead. Not a difficult fix. You probably only need the electric motor (cheap) and not the entire housing (which is expensive). There is an access panel under the carpet in the cargo area and plenty of youtube videos as well as threads on this forum. Look for an Airtex fuel pump motor. E3270 if I recall correctly. A search of this forum will confirm.

I have tested the fuel pump and it works (with the car battery). When I connect it bacjk I have no power and the funny thing is that even when I give external power again the car won't start.

 

so, you connect external power once and it starts. Then you attempt a 'regular' start. Then you reconnect external power and it does NOT start. Since the external power is a 'known', the variable is the pump.

 

I fought mine for weeks until I found the connector at the inertia switch were burnt. I cut the wires and tied them together with a wire nut , planning to fix it better if it worked. 4 years later, the motor died and I never did do a more permanent fix to the wires.
