Default 1998 Disco u joints

Started doing my U joints today but I can't seem to get more than one side's lock washer in the groove. Am I not compressing them enough? How should I be pressing them? Presently I am using a hammer and an old socket to tap (knock) them into place.

You need to drive them in farther.
Hit it harder.

Be absolutely certain that NONE of the needle bearings fell out of place, as this will cause what you are describing.

I usually pull the caps and use my finger to pre-grease with whatever is in my gun and ensure none of the bearings are out of place.

x2 on what Greg says.

Also, read this thread:
"Propshaft Rebuild https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=29302

It applies equally to D1's, not sure why it's only mentioned in the DII section, with the wrong title.
