Default 2004 Discovery Inquiry

I've seen a few posts on here regarding the '04 Disco's service/repair record. I've been driving a '97 Disco (188k miles) for about 13 years, but some spreading rust has me looking for a newer Disco. Other than oil leaks and some interesting problems with the electrics, I haven't had too many maintenance issues that weren't time/use related.

I've heard some bad stories about '04s being somewhat unreliable, and wanted to ask the experts before moving forward on an '04. Also, are there any specific issues between the models (S, SE, etc.) Thanks for the help.

you'd probably be better off asking this in the D2 section. that being said, the '03 and '04 model years with the 4.6 engine are known to slip liners even with out an over heat. do a search on slipped liners in this forum and other LR forums and you'll find plenty to read.

Without top hat liners, the 4.6 blocks can develop cracks between the liner and water jacket, eventually letting combustion gas into the cooling system.
