Low coolant would mean that engine would be running a lot hotter than gauge would show. Sensor would not be touching the hot water, just steam. So you could have been crazy hot.

Ignition Amplifier Module......

Yours still mounted to the distributor? If so, how old if you know? Original?

When the amp gets hot (and begins to fail, leakage) it causes stumbling, no start, engine cutting out. The fact that you where having to wait until the engine cooled until it would start sounds about right. Will gradually get worse until if fails completely, the fluid is the insulator and once it's gone the signal is no longer insulated.

The fix is remote mounting the amp near the coil to move it away from engine heat. The amp itself gets hot then add engine heat. This is a common issue. RRC suffered from it before the 94/95 Disco.

Worth a shot, relatively cheap part.

Yep, fuel, spark, need them both. Extra heat from low coolant pushed it even further over the edge, so it is not fixed yet. AB sells a move kit.

STC1856 - Land Rover Ignition Amplifier Module Relocation Kit

If your's is acting up, while it may behave better when moved, you may wish to also start with a fresh module when you move, under $40; 1994-1995 Land Rover Discovery Ignition Module - Engine Electrical - Lucas 94-95 Discovery Ignition Module - 273-01095262 - PartsGeek

Also the sort of thing to have in the spares kit if headed to the boonies. Squirting it with brake cleaner may cool it off enough to confirm.

Ignition amp was moved when I got the truck and I replaced the amp about 6 months ago, but I will see if I can eliminate it from the list of suspects. I did try to disconnect vss and drive and made it to the end of the driveway, with the vss unplugged as soon as you come to a stop the idle cant adjust and it dies (that is how it is described in the lucas notes I have and also that is exactly what happened)

If you idled in the driveway, and then turned off, would it exhibit the hot re-start problem (removes VSS from the list)?

Well you mean problem is identified. If you cooled off the amp, and things began to work, the amp still needs to be swapped out. Strange that you have lost them so quickly even after being moved.
