I will start going back through to see if I forgot something. I will you guys know what I find out? That 3.9L is from another Discovery I found for $400.00 with 158,000 milea.

Make sure you check it out good, it probably needs some major work done prior to installing it.

 

1 - Pull all of your plugs and compression test that dude.

2 - Looks like you blew your valley pan gasket. are you sure you got your timing right? If it is off, you will be blowing out of the intake, which will send fuel vapors to the top of the engine and if ignited will pop like this. You need to make sure you are at least close on your timing...

I don't have compression tester. I can I check the time if I can't get the Discovery to start? I would love to have it on the road before the snow hits northeast kansas.

You should be able to borrow a compression tester from the local parts store

 

X2 on the loaner tool. Also, you can pull the plug for #1 and see if it is on top dead center and then check your distributor to make sure the rotor is pointing to #1 Also make sure the hash on the balancer is in the range..

The reason for the compression tester is you could have a stuck intake valve and it is blowing fuel mixture back into the intake instead of in the combustion chamber. This will cause your intake to blow out when the plug fires and ignites the whole intake..

also, highly unlikely, but if your chain skipped a tooth, you will be reversing your intake and exhaust. This will blow fuel into your intake.

Your intake blowing out is really weird, and that is all I could think of that would be causing it. A sudden burst of compression could screw up your MAF readings as well and cause it to not start...

I bumped it over to TDC. I checked to see if the rotor was pointing to the number 1 plug on the Distributor and it is. I have not check the compression yet.

Hi guys

I did a compression test today and here is my results #1 cylinder is 60, #2 cylinder is 90, #3 cylinder is 70, #4 cylinder is 90, #5 cylinder is 0 no compression, #6 cylinder is 115, #7 cylinder is 90, and #8 cylinder is 60. any ideas now? I think i need to have the heads checked. With the engine not been ran would I have to replace the head gaskets with them being new?

Hi Guy

I replaced my motor with another 3.9L V8 this past week. When I was under the Discovery I noticed that the shift cable is loose. There is a nut on the cable that looks like I can tighten up. Is this when my ignition key won't come out of the ignition switch? I have tighten the nut that is in the shifter. The Discovery runs good now.
