Guess I'll have to drill it out and re-tap. Beats buying a new timing cover. What a pain.

Also triple check bolt length to be sure it is not just a little too long for that hole.

I did check that and it appears to be designed with a few mm clearance. The only other thing I can think of is using thread sealer lubed the threads too much and gave higher torque value.

Or it got between end of bolt and cover, could not compress the liquid, aluminum threads were next...

Nothing is going right. First it was missing bolt, then stripped threads, now the new cam gear doesn't fit on the new camshaft. When I bolt the gear down it clamps the gear and camshaft end down on the thrust plate. Either the new camshaft is slightly short or the gear is slightly thicker. Maybe I'm not supposed to use the thrust plate at all with these replacements.

Tried old cam shaft. No problem. It's definitely about a mm shorter than stock. Otherwise it appears identical.

Where did you get the new camshaft? Brand? Next step?

I've read about this happening with some crower cams, find a washer the appropriate thickness to space the cam pulley out so it doesnt bind..

Going to call BP this AM. It's Allmakes brand. Not sure who the manufacturer is. If they're going to go to all the trouble of machining these things to tight tolerances everywhere else they could at least get the damn length right... This is like making a space telescope but then lens is the wrong shape...oh wait.

Washer could work I guess... Seems a little TOO shade tree though. I'm also guessing finding a large but very thin washer at the hardware store isn't going to be simple. I'll be lucky to get this thing running by NEXT xmas at this pace.
