Default 97 Disco Fuel System 2 Questions

Alright,
I am trying to replace a fuel filter and find no blue relay, which is it for depressurization?

Secondly, I am only running at about 10-11mpg with no codes coming out. What may cause such ****e mileage?

Cheers,
Eoghan

dont worry about the relay for filter replacement purposes....you can de-pressureize the system @ the fuel rail...there is a fitting that looks like a tire valve on the rh side of the fuel rail......hold a rag there and push the valve in for a coulpe of seconds.
As for the mileage, what have you done as far as a tune up ?

Question Questions

Thanks,
As for tuning, I put in new plugs, plug wires and an air filter. What is a complete tune that I can do at home? Also, should I replace the fuel regulator and that charcoal cannister?

Cheers,
Eoghan

your regulator and canister shouldnt be an issue for now. Look in the tech section here and clean the throttle body, and breather on the pass side valve cover.Check out the 60k service reccommendations. If you have a fuel pressure gauge you could check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail....it should be in the mid 30's psi...run a can of fuel system cleaner through on the next tank of gas..let us know how it goes

Default what they ^^^ said

plus, your oxygen sensors stopped working efficiently a long time ago if they are the originals. Under good conditions they are efficient up to about 80k to 100k miles.

You will get better mpg's with new O2's but driving style, Engine tune, Gas type (use octane of 91 and up) and accessory add-on's will have an impact. A 3" lift with 32's, sliders, skids, winch, roof rack with 14 Hella's dosen't help much.

Quite honestly the best you'll ever get is around 15mpg going down hill for about 250 miles Some folks say you can get 17 with this mod or that mod but your Rover is a two tonne box with a four litre V8 and permanent four wheel drive and about aerodynamic as a shipping container...

proper tune will lead you to better performance

Loosen fuel filter, once the fuel stops dripping replace the filter.
You will loose about 1/2 cup of fuel, it will look like 86 gal's on the ground.
Also use never seize on the filter threads to make it easier to replace next time.
