Not all D1's have a drain/level hole. Just cram about a liter of oil in the swivel. Grease if your seals aren't good.

Sounds easy. I am going to remove some shims as well from the locator pin to see if I can tighten up the swivel bearings. I guess what you guys are saying is that there should be a seal in place, from the factory that separates the swivel lube, from the differential lube.
About the bad cat code.. I came across this thread where a guy modified his 02's to trick the ECM into thinking the cats were still good:

sorry to piggyback on this? but what was the cutoff for grease/oil from the factory? pretty sure mine has grease, there are two "genuine land rover swivel grease has been applied" stickers under the hood on my truck. Can I just buy more of if and slam it in there without servicing the whole thing?

If you have the small drain plug it looks like this Drain Plug - Swivel Housing (Part # 236070 ) - Land Rover swivel ***** & parts from Atlantic British
RE: " I am going to remove some shims as well from the locator pin to see if I can tighten up the swivel bearings" This is not going to end well. Your next post will be "Why do I have DEATH WOBBLE???" SEARCH it.
And this vid answers a $hitload of questions and show the seals(1:16 is the stub axle seal)
