Today I'm purchasing the brand new "proline" rear driveshaft complete replacement. Pretty sure I know what I'm doing seeing how I removed the old one. But just wanted to know if their where any other precautions to consider. For example does it matter to which degree the shaft is turned when installing it? Should I use new bolts since I used a propane turbo torch to loseen up the old bolts? How to tell which side of the new shaft goes where?

 

I'd get new bolts with lock washers or nylon locking nuts (I would think an Aftermarket shaft would come with hardware?). Don't worry about the orientation, its new, some people say you should mark it in the future when changing it but I've never noticed a difference either way and I've replaced hundreds of driveshafts. As far as which end is which, my Great Basin rear shaft has the slide yoke closest to the rear.

Get those bolts tighter than hell!!

 

Not sure if bolts come with replacement shaft, hope so. Yeah ill use my foot torque method for tightening up those bolts when I do get em on.

On a second note: does anyone know how to troubleshoot a fuel filter replacement? Took me awhile to get the old one off, now the new filter has been installed.... Barely. But when I start the engine up, fuel leaks through the new filter. Don't know it the bolt is just to lose or consequently if I screwed up a fuel line in the process. All I know is that tightening the bolt on each side of the filter was a pain in the neck. Screw one bolt counter clockwise and the opposing bolt screws off. Already tried using 2 wrenches- one to hold the bolt still while I tried twisting the opposing bolt. I ended up having to use a crest wrench and pliers to twist the fuel line several cycles I'm order to get the bolt to twist onto the filter! Don't really feel that was the best way to het the job done. Any thoughts?

 

Did you clean the threads on the fuel lines? I'd take it off and do it again. It it goes on hard, there is something wrong.

 

The fuel filter is a huge PIA.
I replace mine once a year and I always have the hardest time getting it back on.
But you need to hold the fuel filter nut with one wrench and then use another to tighten the fuel line.
Then do the other side.
I keep saying I'm never doing it again, but then every spring...

 

Honestly I did not dare touching the filter nut but ill take the filter off and try that method. Thanks Spike.
