Default 98 High Idle

During the past day or 2 my D1 has been idling anywhere between 1000-2000 rpm. Usually whenever I start it it starts a 2k then comes down usually to 1500 sometimes 1k. I tapped on the TPS a bit earlier and the idle jumped around a bit. Now whenever I shut the truck off and start it again it wants to sputter out until i give it some revs and it will idle at 2k. Is the TPS the issue here? I read a thread that the truck could be in permanent limp mode until I get the ECU reset.

No it's not in permanent limp mode, the Idle Air Control solenoid has crapped the bed. Clean it and its port which is right under the Throttle Position Sensor. Carbon is the number one issue. A kerput IAC is my guess. Napa, Advance Auto, the net has em. Do not change the position of the pintle, don't rotate it if cleaning. If it still doesn't work after cleaning then a new one is needed. Measure it's pintle length and match the new one to the old one. If still not idling at 700 rpm then an adaptive reset is needed. This was just posted a few weeks ago by another member hhoward and it's been posted and replied to ad nausium thousands of times since the site became active. Do a search on "high idle".
