Cool 99 Disco I : ECU+Alarm replaced together (ECU rust), ran once, now door locks inop

Good day,

I have a pretty clean '99 Disco I. Stopped catching but would turn over. The computer was giving Crank Position Sensor code. Replaced sensor, ran like a dog for a day, then DOA. Temp change resulted in the computer just being unresponsive, and then saw a good deal of corrosion on its underside. Replaced both ECU and green Alarm box from an _Identical_ '99 DI - same ECU #'s and date codes, etc.

Ran like a CHAMP (again, was always strong), for a day, then DOA with no crank.

Battery light solid red, Service Engine remains - always has, and doesn't _seem_ to be immobilized, unless that's the indicator, but attempts at EKA 1515 and Key Fob relearning are not happening. The driver's side lock cylinder no longer locks the doors with the FOB-less door key, whereas before it did, so I don't suspect mechanical breakage.

Piles of effort already into this, and hate to lose excellent mechanical ability to electrical gremlins.

Where should I be looking? Is it time to pick up a Rovacom Lite (unfortunately I do not know the VIN inside the new ECU until I read it), or a Hawkeye(?? or a... can Hawkeye do all I need/want: read VIN, program FOB, reset codes, be my savior)?

Am I resigned to chasing Ohms once the weather warms, or is it time to part the otherwise clean vehicle out and get back into K.I.S.S.-inspired 80's Toyotas?

I am a Long way from Land Rover expertise. If this was the Sahara, I'd be a goner.

I wish someone would aftermarket a solution for melting off that damn Lucas alarm unit and just let the vehicle do its thing.

you may have just answered a question I have.. So maybe I can answer you.
I have successfully swapped a ECM (alone- no green box) for troubleshooting purposes and have wondered how long you can go before you get locked out. You have learned - not long..

I suspect that you must have a shop with the right test book to correctly link the ECM and AS10 (green box) with the MFU (box on back of fuse box under dash)

The reason I suspect this is due to the rave's electric troubleshooting manual showing several links or relationships to the MFU.

Please keep us informed as to what you may be learning from what you are doing and as I continue to play, will do the same.

Thank you for your reply.

I am in the NORTHERN reaches of the Upper Peninsula, and the rig will likely corrode through before any shop within 300 miles gets a Test Book that works with a '99 DI.

However, I am pot committed (should be committed?!) now, so I am considering getting the iLAND Bluetooth diagnostic tool from Atlantic British, if it is capable of alleviating these Immobilizations / capable of making the ECU and Alarm play nice with the rest of the vehicle and syncing with the Key FOBs I still have around.

iLAND Diagnostic App Activation Kit And Bluetooth Adapter For Land Rover And Range Rover Vehicles (Single Vehicle Model)

With older Rovers, the way I see it, there are two competing theories:
