Default ABS Light on then off -on -off

The broblem
Abs light is on when driving. Brakes appear to work normal light on or off. Occasional, for no appearant reason abs kicks in and causes brakes pulse and make it extremely difficult to stop. After that for a short period the abs light is on or off. have cleard all codes.
cheers

I know for us here in the states with petrol Discos, the ABS is problematic. Usually we just pull the ABS fuse. No ABS but no untimely, unplanned brake pulsing.

But I'll defer to the smarter people here.

Unforchanatly europe has desided that if your car was made with ABS then it must work or stay off the road!

Start with a brake fluid flush. Make sure there isn't any crud in the lines and abs unit causing the abs to act up occasionally. Should be done periodically anyway. Then check all of your wheel speed sensors to make sure they are clean with no damage to the wiring. Also verify they are seated correctly. Report back with your findings.

There are still ways around that, open the hood, pull the ABS PUMP fuse, put fuse in safe location.
Drive truck, have no ABS.
When inspection time comes around, install ABS PUMP fuse, clear ABS codes, get inspected.
Leave inspection place, remove ABS PUMP fuse.
Or spend the money and take it to a Rover specialist because there is not much we can do to help you, the ABS system on the DI is so bad and unreliable and expensive to fix we just unplug it.

So I checked all the ABS sensors for air gaps, swivel pins, wheel bearings and front drive shafts for play all ok so then bled the whole system with fresh brake fluid cleared the ABS memory and now its OK job sorted

Congrats. Sometimes(well, all the time) our Land Rovers are just screaming for our love and affection. Doesn't take much to keep them happy, unless they have been neglected for many years(which is usually the case).
