Couldn't find a good post for this, so I thought Id ask for help adding 12v plugs to the interior of my 98 dI. I was thinking about replacing the cigar lighter with a blue sea usb port, and adding an american sized 12v cigaret lighter plug for other stuff. Anyone have advice or walkthrough on this? I'm electrically retarded.

I did this in my D1. I left the cigar lighter though because I have some stuff that fits it and changing it looked like a PITA.
I bought some Marinco 12v outlets off eBay. Just like these.
I made a template and drilled the trans tunnel trim. There wasn't a lot of room behind the receptacles so I used Flag Terminals. I crimped them with a pair of channel locks.![Smile](https://landroverforums.com/forum/images/smilies/H5uKDcM.png)

The hardest part was running the wires discreetly. The two additional receptacles are always hot which is nice.

That looks awesome! Exactly the sort of setup I was thinking of. It looks like you accessed the wiring harness through the glove box? Where I really get stumped is how to wire the new port into the harness. Do you have to cut and splice? And what about fusing the things? Before I tear into the dash do y'all have any tips? Thanks again for your help.

I'm actually taking power straight from the battery via an auxiliary fuse box I installed in the engine bay. Thw wire comes in through the firewall on the drivers side and then sneaks behind the dash over to the passenger side. Without doing all that you could.....run a wire straight from the battery, punch it through the firewall wherever you could, add an inline fuse, and run to the sockets.
Having the receptacles be always hot is really helpful.

The double unit may be a tight squeeze above the ashtray though.

Well, the socket part alone takes a 1-1/8" hole to mount. The front lip is a slightly larger diameter than that, I'd guess 1.25" OD. So two sockets side by side would need 2.5" bare minimum to mount, probably figure 2.75" to be safe and leave enough room to turn the securing nuts on the back of each one. I have no idea what the spacing is on the plate provided in the link but I'd guess at least 3" overall width.
