If you can get parts, I remember used to go to pep boys and buy alt rebuild kits off the shelf, long time ago

Trio diode could be bad, brushes shot, etc.

My tach is bouncing, guess I'll check my cables also. I had the alt replaced with one from O'Rilley auto parts.
