alternator + tach issues...
so yesterday my tach stopped working and the battery light came on, but the truck still made it home 25 miles, without loosing any power, still restarts and everything. checked voltage at battery and rear of alternator, and just barely goes over 12 when you rev it, so its crap. it is the original Magneti Marelli, or at least thats what the rear cover says, but i had it rebuilt right after i bought the truck, for a busted bearing. never had any issues since till now. I found a link while searching for the voltage regulator from bp utah, so is that gonna be my best option? its that or i can get a used one from the guy i got my transfer case from, as hes got 2 discos hes parting out, but im unsure their condition or if they are original or not, and hes 80 miles away. is mine worth repairing or should i grab a used one?

The regulator would be a good option. Used from salvage yard the alternators go for about $28 near me. Won't be restarting for long with no charging. You can charge up with small charger overnight for short runs each day until parts arrive, AC off, etc. Tom says he swapped one from a Range Rover and got some additional amps (120 - 140). The stock D1 is a whopping 100 amp, mine draws 80+ with truck running, stock head lights, air, blower, wipers, radio on.
