Default Temporary tach/alternator drop at operating temp

95 Disco. Recently ran through a deep puddle in a rainstorm. Alternator failed a few days later and was replaced. Recharged battery and cleaned terminals to cables and fuse box. Alt and battery check out ok. Starts and appears to charge fine. As soon as engine warms to operating temp, tach starts dropping out and battery light comes on when coming to a stop (i.e. at idle). If I keep RPMs up at idle, tach works and battery light goes out. This persists for just a couple of minutes, then dissappears. Wondering whether I got water in ECU or the BECU fuse box. Suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like you got a bad rebuilt alternator. I would run by an auto parts store and have then test it.

Thanks Mike, it was a bad "out of the box" alternator. Waiting for the replacement. But concerned that this is the second alternator in two years. Is this to be expected?

No as long as the company that is rebuilding them is doing a good job you shouldn't be looking for this to continue.
