Apologies for being off the wires here, not had a chance to catch up or do any work on it since 94Disco1 on 3/7/23. Thanks for all the input since then!. I'll be try swapping out the amplifier next (hopefully this weekend), it's still doing the job grumpy as it is so I'm trying to find a window where I'm fine without it in case I get out of my depth and it's off the road. I've got an 06 Cayenne I'm getting ready to use as coverage but slow progress on both fronts. Thanks again for the input, I'll keep updating as and when! Cheers!

OK! Thanks for all the input so far.. back to the original topic! ... STILL timing and $ have not aligned for me to give this proper attention without being stranded (although it's looking like I will be soon ..)

My thoughts are the pick up in the distributor, recently it began fire up skipping the whole 1500 / 900 / 750 etc rev procedure (sorry don't know the term for that sequence) and entering an immediate low rev splutter just about holding itself together. It will either self correct or I'll shut it off then it will only start after multiple attempts and then go through it's normal start up rev sequence. This has happened on both cold and hot starts.

I can't back up my conclusions that it is the pick up with anything other than it makes sense as this appears to be an advanced state of what it was already suffering with on the persistent and fluctuating rough idle.

If any else thinks this might be the case.. replace the whole set up or just the pick up?

Thanks as always!

I am not quite following the logic. The ECM controls the IACV that controls the start up RPMs. The pick up fires the coil at the right time, and signals to the ECM, but does not influence RPMs.
