Ok DISCO MIKE; What If? Would your insurance pay for your injuries and vehicle damage while you were ramming around OFF ROAD? Pretty sure they expect you to follow normal operating conditions. Do you have any experience in this subject? I will make a call to my insurance company and let you know what they say.

Here it is;
Off road driving is the biggest difference between 4×4 and regular car insurance. This option lets you take your vehicle off of the road and through other terrains. If you damage your vehicle, which is fairly likely, the damages will only be covered if you have a specific policy with off-road insurance. A standard policy will become void for the time you drive off road, leaving you to pay the damages yourself. Prices will increase if you regularly participate in races or other all-terrain sports with your 4×4. Some people choose to get insurance for these events just for one day to reduce costs. And guess what! If your air bags deploy, you will have to report it.

Hope you all read this and make sure you have off road coverage. WOW! this was the dumbest thread.

I could also see this being useful for those of us unhappy in our current "relationship".

If you do install a switch I'd use a double throw so you can wire it to illuminate an indicator light when the SRS system is disabled, so you don't forget when you're back on the road.

Tend to agree with Mike. Worst case you have to replace airbags. They are there for a reason BTW, my insurance company covers me and my Disco no matter where we are. That's what I pay them for.

I am not sure how sensitive the air bag sensors are in our Discos but I also have a Jeep Wrangler and have done some pretty hard core rock crawling and off road driving and the airbag never deployed. I have had it airborne quite a few times too. If they are anything like the Jeep sensors you would really need to hit something hard to get it to deploy and in that case you would prob be glad that it did.

So if you have full coverage on your Discovery, and there's a total loss, does the adjuster looking at the claim consider the fact that the only thing good to begin with is the transfer case? I mean, all the aftermarket stuff you bought isn't in the KBB.

you can tell your agent that you have winch and bumper and tires and rack and whatever, and they'll add it to the policy. My agent always asks me about that kind of stuff when I add a new car.
