Looks like there may be 3 parts here but I'm not sure. I assume all this is part of the electrical system for which I know nothing about at the moment. Thanks in advance.

The big one is your charcoal cannister from an Advanced Evap. motor. The small on is your purge vent. You should also have a purge valve that was mounted close to these two parts.

Thanks for the input. Never heard of a Charcoal Canister before. Could'ent find anything like it on RoverLandParts.con either. Do you know what years its compatible with?

Are you sitting down???

While the link below is for a charcoal cannister in a P38a from 1995-1998, it is identical to the one used from mid '97-'99 on DI's.

Land Rover Charcoal Canister - 1995-1998 & Other Parts For Rovers at Atlantic British

At $320, if you want to go used I can hook you up for a fraction (literally a tenth of that price) of the cost.

Here's the purge valve:

If I find a listing for the purge vent that's in your photos I'll post up.

Again thanks for the info. I dont actually need a replacement as I have a D2 at the moment. Just have a small pile of used D1 parts and the "Charcoal Canister" was always a mystery to me. Always thought it was just some electronic computer device (maybe for cruise control or something). ... does it literally have charcoal inside?

It collects gas vapor from the gas tank and condenses it back into liquid, it is then sucked out and burned in the engine or returned to the gas tank, depends on the car.
This is a emissions device to prevent gas vapors from killing the ozone layer.
Gas is highly volatile, meaning it evaporates very quickly, even inside the gas tank, park on a hot parking lot in the summer and the gas in your tank evaporates, if you had no gas cap your gas tank would be empty in no time just from sitting.
