I've seen many posts on here about how to remove the automatic shifter T-handle. All of them say to simply "remove" the clip holding the button mechanism together (right underneath the top cap on the handle). However, it is not obvious to me how this clip comes off (without breaking it). Could someone humor me and give me some more details on how to remove this? I've attached a picture in case there's any confusion on the piece I'm talking about.
The center shaft has a groove around it with a clip in there. It is tough to get out, and tough to put back in. Once the clip is removed, the 1/2 round part comes out (red circled part) and then the **** comes up. You have to pull it up pretty hard and don't hit yourself in the head when it comes off. (been there) looks like you have a flat plate that holds the center shaft in position. Slide the plate so the larger hole is around the shaft and it should release. The bent tang keeps it from working off while going down the road, you may have to straighten it to get it to release. Mine was missing so I used an E-clip.
To shift gears, the red center shaft has to be pulled upwards to allow the shift to move. If the clip comes out, you won't be able to change gears, or get into park unless you pull the center up (white part)
When I got my truck, the **** was laying in the glove box and I had to figure out how to get it to shift, and what parts were needed to hold it together.
