Default 4x4 Shifter **** removal

Replacing the vinyl covers on the 4x4 shift and e-brake and I am having a problem with the 4x4 shifter cover.

Does any one know if the 4x4 selector **** just pulls off the arm?

I have the bottom plastic part removed from the console but for the life of me can't seen to get the **** off arm either by sliding it off or unscrewing it.

The rubber handle for the e-brake just pulled off.

Any help would be appriciated.

Yes, here how you do it.
Turn your car on. Put it in neutral, put the E-brake on. Turn your Rover off.
With the gear shifter in neutral pull straight up with max force while pressing the trigger. It will come off straight up. Watch out, you can give yourself a black eye or loose some teeth, it comes off violently.

Hi Bosshogt,

Are you referring to the gear selector?

I am trying to get the 4x4 (Hi/Low) selector **** (no trigger on that one) off so I can replace the fake leather/vinyl cover.

Thanks,

Art

The handle of the transfer case shifter unscrews from the shifter (assuming you have the gaiter (boot) fully removed from the console). I verified this just now my removing the handle of my original shifter (non-CDL) laying on the roof of the RX-7 in the garage.

Yea she just screws off normal like... just be mindful that it spins WITH the leather piece, so you have to unclip it from the center console, so it will too sping with the ****... spin the **** a few times, then spin the leather a few times to "catch up" so you dont ruin the leather. Once its high enough, it clears the corners well enough to spin on its own with the **** before it comes off.

Thanks guys,

Mine must have been screwed on by a transformer robot as it was very hard to unscrew (that is why I didn't thisn it was meant to unscrew).

Had to wrap it in a rag, grab it with a large pair of vice grips and use the leverage to get it to break free.

Other than that it was a breeze!

Have a great Thanksgiving!
