Axle Carrier Question

Axle Carrier Question
I have a broken axle shaft on my RRC. I'm posting this here because it's the later Disco axle not the 10 spline. Or so I'm told. I haven't opened it up yet. My problem is that the snapped off end won't come out of the tube. I tried a along magnet with no luck. Since I don't know the severity of the brake I wouldn't mind checking it out and cleaning it all up anyway.
My question is can I simply unbolt the assembly from the axle housing? Or will I have to disturb the bearings/preload? I'm reading the manual and it's not forthcoming with information about pulling it out and putting the same parts right back in.
Finally I'm assuming clean with RTV sealant is ok? I don't see a gasket in place now.

When I replaced my 10 spline with 24 spline I wanted to keep the old axle assembly, but it's too heavy and awkward to move assembled. So I unbolted the swivel ***** and unbolted the diff so that I could put it all in my shed. The swivel housings, brakes, swivel *****, cv joints, axle, etc all complete are still pretty heavy though. I did have the calipers off because I wanted to swap them onto the new axle.
