Back again with a Disco 1
Hey guys. I joined the forum abut a year ago when I purchased a 99 Disco for stupid cheap and I needed advise. I got tons of positive feedback from here. Well that one had a blown motor and the previous owner could never find the title. What a nightmare. Any way for the passed year Ive wanted to get another Land Rover. I searched and searched and I finally bought one about a month ago. its so completely perfect for me. Ive been lurking on here for the past month I figure its time to start posting.

This is a 95 Discovery 1. No moon roofs, no power seats. (precisely what I wanted). Its got a 3 inch (i think) Terrafirma lift with new shocks as well. A entire folder full of maintenance receipts dating back to the purchase. Its got 134k miles on it. Its very well maintained. Hes got tons of new parts already on it. A fully rebuilt engine. New crank and pistons heads blah blah blah. It was done about 15k ago. So plenty of time for him to have to work out all the bugs. Haha.
I need to do a CV axle on it as its starting to click. Im gong to do both since I figure they were put in at the same time. I ordered swivel ball kits and bearings to do while Im there. Also the stupid 2 1/16th socket needed.
Next is all the piddly maint items. Fluid changes. trans, transfer and diffs. This was done at 88k, I'm going to do it again. Dont care if it breaks it as I'd rather have it broken now when Im expecting it rather than on a long trip. Ive read the 100's of posts and I think Im good on the procedure. (although I still don't see why I cant fill threw the dipstick tube like any other transmission).
Need to do a passenger power window motor, an ultra gauge, front and rear brakes, coolant flush, and some cosmetic work. Im loving this thing. For the first time in years Im actually very happy with my choice. Ive owned over 190 cars/trucks and I always look to sell almost immediately after buying. I love this thing. Im very impressed with its off road abilities. Its so completely smooth both on and off road. I'm just sorry I didn't get one sooner.

Welcome back, you have been busy. I would suppose one reason that you would follow the RAVE procedure is that the torque converter does not drain out, so if you added the spec quantity of fluid you could easily be over filled.
I've never opened one of these up but some autos that I have worked on have a converter drain plug. I'm assuming this isn't the case. Either way. I'll do filter and pan drop first then drain and fill a little while later.
No plug, usually have to change, run, drain like three times. But there is a pressure test port with a plug on it, seems like you could attach a hose, run until two quarts comes out, stop, top off, and repeat until just new fluid comes out, then do another two quarts just to be sure. Cheap to do unless you are using Royal Purple....
See page 426 of 873 in the shop manual.

So what engine oil/filter should I use? I have coolant in my oil on my220k mile truck why? How do I change trans fluid? How can I get better gas mileage? Why is my ABS light on? ...
These are jokes..haha.
