back door alignment. why's this look so off?
I agree that it may be twisted upward., or may have some hidden damage, naybe it was saggong and someone got too eager with the fix and overcompensated.
You would be surprised how many people before you have gotten their frustrations out against me for a few of my redneck based jokes or my physics based references in the past. Some have really gotten all bent out if shape and got downright ignorant about it, so I just added the bottom link in my signature to help laugh it off.
Those hinges are a known weak point with such a huge door and the spare mounted there. If I ever change rear bumper, I may go with a swing away spare carrier or some other method of mounting to get it off the door.

nope.....no fair warning, just broke the hell off, I suspect one or the other of them was already broken inside and the other one couldnt take it any more.
and there's no such thing as gravity, the earth just sucks......

I took a close look at my hinges after reading this. They both have little slivers starting to come loose at the bottom of each hinge.
The way LR did tose hinges is goofy. One in the middle and one at the bottom does not appear to be well balanced. Another one at the top would have helped balance the load it seems to me.
I would prefer a totally different type of door design. That big single door is good for some loading applications but I would have preferred either Barn Doors like a Suburban or a drop down ramp or something like the Bronco had.

Check the track on the bottom of the door for anything stuck in it. I found some crap inside the track of mine once and it made the gate shut real goofy, and if its big enough it would make the latch rise when shutting it. Also check the hinge mounting bolts the mite be loose and twisting the door.
I thought about that track being damaged or off somehow. Good idea.

Open your door all the way so it is in parallel with the rest of the truck. Now look closely at the hinges on the door and at the chasis. Are any hinges or the door itself slanted/tilted/sagging downwards towards the rear? Something pointing down in this position will translate to the door being too high at the strike plate. Hinges effect geometry in ways that many people overlook. Pointing down in one position is actually up in another position.
So with your door fully swung open try to adjust it up. This will bring the strikeplate part down when it closes.

The door would almost have to be twisted downward on the hinge side for the other side to raised up would it not.
You might try loosening both hinges slightly and adjusting to see if it realigns it or not.
Ideally the door should be hung in a balanced condition. Like I said earlier, having just two hinges is not an ideal situation. Look at most doors of any type. My front door has three, almost every hinged application does.
Maybe someone previously tried adjust the sag out and overcompensated.

I never thought of that. Brilliant!
