Rover11-- it must be the F U regulator Dodger was talking about. Nothing to do with the Fuel Regulator but that other, special F U regulator which meters out an occasional F U as preprogrammed by those fine chaps at Solihull.
I think Lucas makes all sorts of F U components too. I think I'll see if I can order up a "Special F U Vehicles" badge for my rig.

Sorta like the bumper sticker that says "CAUTION, DO NOT FOLLOW TOO CLOSELY, PARTS MAY FALL OFF AT ANY TIME."
So far, my middle muffler, passenger's running board, and a few other minor things have come off while underway.
The fuel lines have rotted thru, the brushbar was falling apart and a few other minor issues.
But you gotta love it to keep it.

As he has a '97, I was not sure if he had AEL - and therefore an alternate fuel filter location than my '96 and your '66, '94 and '95. (At least I believe that the AEL System differentiates the Filter Location)

On your vehicle, it may be in the tank with the pump. I have a pre-AEL Discovery I, so my filter is external under the rear passenger wheel well.
If he did indeed change the pump, then you may have an "installation" issue if the POV did this himself. I have read stories where the the installation was not completed properly, and the bottom "cup" of the pump assembly was completely off and the pump just slamming against the bottom of the tank.
If I were you, I would pull the carpet up off the cargo floor, take off the access cover and pull the assembly out of the tank for the "visual once over".
Other than that, without any additional details, the other suggested courses of action are still the ones I would pursue.
Good Luck!
