Default Bad Fuel Pump or Relay?

I replaced my fuel pump(and filter) a week ago. Ran great for 3-4days. Then one day, after sitting for a half hr hot( just done 1hr freeway drive), it would not start. After cranking for 5-10 min, fired up,spitting and sputtering at first. Drove home, another hr freeway, and ran great for a day or two, then did it again. Not knowing if I got a bum pump or if my relay was going bad, I figured I'd check for power at the pump.

I am getting 11 volts, no load. I didn't want to compromise the wiring by poking into it to see what it was with a load. Now that seems a little low to me. Possible I'm getting voltage with no load, but as soon as I plug the pump in,it's putting too much load on the relay and it's crapping out?

When it won't start, I can let it sit for a while(couple hrs) and it starts and runs fine until it warms up. When it does not start, there is no pressure at the rail, but getting spark.

What do you guys think? I already got a new relay coming, but wont be here 'til probably tues or wed. Then I will know for positive, but want to get a jump on it if it is the pump.

Its not the pump then.
I would say a bad relay.
It gets hot and pukes on you.
Next time it happens pour some cool water on it and see what happens.

I may try that or wait til the new relay gets here. All I gotta say is I dont think I would drive a rover if I didn't have a back-up car. Waiting for parts is a p.i.t.a.

Whats odd is when it wouldn't start, i swapped the old pump in. ran fine. So I put the new pump in, ran fine.

It has never quit on me running, its always on restart.

Just dont shut it off, problem solved.

When I went to TX we drove the whole way down (16 hrs) and never once shut my truck off.

Where did you order the relay from?
How is it being shipped?

Will(roverguy). Taking a gamble on a used one, $25 vs. $100 new. Had to order some other stuff anyways....

Too funny, I did just that. Last trip I took in the rover I let it sit and idle while i was in the store. Was almost hoping someone would steal it

I dont know how he ships, I think USPS flat rate and that takes forever.
If that cures the problem then you can start saving your coins for a new one, or do like I do and ask for Rover parts for birthdays and Christmas.

Too funny, for fathers day I got a front and rear set of cross drilled/slotted rotors and some "low dust, semi mettalic" c-tek(??) brake pads. Think she got 'em off e-bay
