Best way to do trailer wiring 'right'?
Guys,
Looking to hook up trailer wiring on my 98, and want to do it 'right' so to speak. Couple questions:
1) It sounds like there is already a factory plug inside by the tailight, is that right? I haven't looked recently, but I read it somewhere.
2) Can ya just make an adapter that goes from the round factory plug to the regular 4-pin connector, or won't that work? I'm guessing not because I see the kit listed below has some sort of 'box' which all the wires go into:
Harness Adapter Kit:Land Rover Trailer Wiring Kit (Same Fit As Genuine Part # WIRING KIT)
3) What does that flat 'box' in the kit do where all the wires go into? Is it an electrical isolator to prevent damage to the vehicle, or something else?
4) Are there less expensive options?
5) I might add a 7-pin connector instead, but I can handle the trailer brakes part.
Thanks for your help.

From what I gather, the British run their lights different. Something in the way of separating either the brake lights and or the tail lights and wiring to each light individually, whereas tail lights and brake lights in US are wired together. The box changes the wiring to meet US standards.
You have to have that box
There is a plug in by the pass tail light, plug in the box, punch out grommet in floor to run wires, zip tie flat plug to hitch
There is an online trailer part Mega store that may sell it cheaper
