Default Brake fluid

I am replacing my master cylinder and reservoir tank. When I ordered the part from AB they told me that Castrol brand brake fluid should be all that's ever used in rovers. Can anyone confirm this or was it just a sales pitch?

As long as it is DOT 4 (or meets the requirements for DOT 4) it should not matter....I see NOTHING in the RAVE about a specific brand...

I don't use Castrol, and don't have any issues. Further, the brand I buy is DOT 3/4 combination.

Thank you for the response. I have also been using the DOT 3/4.

No problem - looks like I am just up the road from you!

When I was checking on the same question as you, I did some reading/research which led me to my comments to you.

Also, in the FWIW column, a 32oz bottle of Castrol from AB is almost $10 (BEFORE shipping!) whereas the "3/4" combo that I buy was under $2 for the 32oz bottle.

Initially I was using the Castrol because that was all I could find - but have had no negative side effects from switching.

Your Rover came with all Castrol fluids in it because it is a UK company.
But as long as you use a low moisture absorbsion brake fluid you are fine with any brand.
