Hi Guys!
Back again with some issues with my 97 Disco I.
Just had a new Master Cylinder installed (found a bargain for about half $$). When I picked the truck up - everything was fine - drove about 4 miles and the brakes locked up. As I was preparing to call the tow truck I decided to try and "lift" the brake pedal with my foot - and magically my brakes functioned correctly. Is there something I forgot to do after bleeding, and installing new MC? I cannot figure out what caused this and I cannot be on the highway (which I do alot of highway driving) and have the brakes lock up like this again.

Second question - does anyone have a good source or any good ideas as to what to use for a replacement pin for my rear door, the metal snapped and it needs to be replaced. ( I should have removed the spare tire long ago because of the extra weight)

Are you saying your brake pedal stayed in the down position when you braked?

Did you check your fluid level afterwards to see if you lost any fluid?

Paul Grant is an excellent source for used parts, maybe he can sell you a set of hinges to replace yours, they are a common problem on these beasts.

 

The pedal was fine when I left the shop, however the more I used the brakes the stiffer the pedal became. The pedal was in its correct position, and had to be lifted to release the brakes. I hope that makes sense.

 

i wouldnt even bother diagnosing the brake issue, drive it straight back to the shop you picked it up from and make them fix it properly.

my guess is that the MC might be defective if youre having to lift the pedal back with your foot.... or more likely, the booster was damaged in the process of replacing the MC. theres a spring in that that should return the pedal

 

Or the incorrect MC was installed.

 

I have read that a lot of the "aftermarket" equivalents are not truly compatable and will act like that. If it is not the correct MC, that may be why it was so cheap. Cheap acts as cheap is made -POORLY!!!

Some items you can use cheaper alternatives. With brakes I do not want to be thinking: "But I really saved a lot of money" as I am careening down a hill or stopped with locked up brakes like you had.

Karen, Spike posted a reply to your brake issue on LRO that is correct. MC needs adjustment. The shop you had do the work doesn't know what they are doing by the way......that's my opinion, not Spikes.
